The She Kicks Locker Room: Captain’s Chat with Alicia Powe (Swansea City)

Swansea City’s central defender joined the club in 2004, has captained it for seven seasons, and fits it around a nursing career at Morriston Hospital. Freshly back from a Champions League round-two trip to Cyprus, she calls it a privilege and a trip to remember, and says the squad took professional athletes to their limits. She describes herself as passionate and vocal, and says she has mellowed with time and with becoming a registered nurse. Taking the armband at twenty-three, just back from coaching in America, matured her and gave her the nudge to apply for nursing. Her proudest moments range from Welsh cups to back-to-back titles to leading the side out in Europe, and she is clear that it is fine to ask for help.
