The Reborn Identity (Amy McDonald interview)
She Kicks, issue 47, May 2018 p.44
Amy McDonald retired at twenty-six when an ankle injury ended her 2012 season, and she is unusually direct about what that cost. She had always been Amy who played for Glasgow City, Amy who played for Scotland, Amy who captained Celtic, and then she was in a limbo where she felt like an Amy that was nothing. Players, she notes, do not process emotions because the playing does it for them. Five years on, and after being made redundant by Glasgow City, she took the Rangers job and has built it on treating people the way she would want to be treated, and on combining experience with youth. Shelley Kerr’s advice, given in Saudi Arabia, was to always try and say yes.
