A joint retirement tribute to two midfielders who were there at the very start. Laura Coombs and Lucy Staniforth both played in the inaugural FA WSL season of 2011, for Chelsea and Lincoln Ladies respectively. Coombs, 35, signed off with the final goal in Manchester City’s 4-1 win at West Ham United and retires a champion for the second time, having also won the title with Chelsea in 2015; she featured in every WSL campaign and won seven England caps, playing against Denmark and China PR at the 2023 World Cup. Staniforth, 33, missed only the 2014 season, through an ACL rupture that followed one in her other knee, appearing in 14 of 15, and leaves Aston Villa with 17 caps.
