Interview

The Fortune Turner

She Kicks, issue 50, November 2018 pp.30–33

A four-page interview with Manchester United Women’s Amy Turner, thriving in the FA Women’s Championship after harsh years and four England caps. She praises a professionalism and integration with the wider club unlike anything she has known, recalling nearly 5,000 fans and an unreal atmosphere for a Continental Cup game against Reading. Turner rates Casey Stoney’s reading of the game as the best she has seen and credits assistant Willie Kirk with instilling composure. She details a knee injury in July 2016 that Notts County did not properly understand, an operation taken over by England, the club’s collapse in April 2017 and a long rebuild at Liverpool. She discusses her sister Lucy, captain at Barnsley, a formative spell at Hofstra University in New York, and being told by Doncaster she was not good enough.
