She Kicks, issue 66, April 2021 p.45
A page of photographs marking ten years since the first Women’s Super League match, and, more usefully, a complete printed record of it. Arsenal beat Chelsea 1-0 at Imperial Fields, the home of Tooting and Mitcham United, on 13 April 2011, in front of 2,510 people, with Gilly Flaherty scoring on 36 minutes. Both starting elevens are named in full. Chelsea lined up with Claire Rafferty, Leanne Champ, Ashlee Hincks, Carly Telford, Kylie Davies, Gemma Bonner, Hayley Morwood, Danni Bird, Helen Ward, Sophie Perry and Dani Buet. Arsenal fielded Faye White, Jen Beattie, Emma Byrne, Ciara Grant, Niamh Fahey, Flaherty, Kim Little, Steph Houghton, Katie Chapman, Ellen White and Rachel Yankey. Twenty-two names, one afternoon, and the start of everything that followed.
