She Kicks, issue 88, February 2025 pp.30–31

Former Manchester United academy defender Phoebe Hollin discusses her transformative four years at Temple University in Philadelphia, a move sparked after she was not offered a senior contract in England. Guided into the American collegiate system by Go 2 College Soccer’s Jon Maloney, Hollin describes adapting from right-back to centre-back and even midfield, taking on free-kick duties, and captaining the side for two seasons under the influence of early mentor Marissa DiGenova. She reflects candidly on arriving as an immature 18-year-old and being shaped by teammates and coaches into a stronger leader, plus summers spent playing in the USL W-League with Asheville City and Eagle FC. With her degree in Advertising complete, Hollin is now targeting a professional playing career in the United States, with coaching identified as a fallback ambition, in a piece exploring the college pathway many British players have followed.
