SWPL: Aberdeen – Nikki Wright and new signings

Richard Payne reports on Aberdeen, who have surprised many with back-to-back top-six finishes in the Scottish Women’s Premier League and by beating a number of Scotland’s leading clubs along the way. Striker Nikki Wright, at the Dons since she was thirteen, says the key was always having confidence in their footballing ability while working hard on fitness and tactics. She describes her partnership with Rebecca Dempster, calling Dempster the skilful one and herself the runner, and says the pair complement each other’s style. Wright insists the squad are not getting carried away and will again target the top six before setting a new challenge. She welcomes close-season signings Cassie Cowper, Becky Flaherty, who chose Aberdeen over Glasgow City, and Hannah Stewart, all in the Scotland youth ranks, plus the athleticism and experience of Fay McDonald.
