Interview
Super Steph (Steph Houghton)
She Kicks Special Edition, October 2016 p.57
An interview with the defender whose goal against Brazil for Team GB before a record Wembley crowd turned her into a household name. Houghton describes London 2012 as a whirlwind that changed her life, having played only 40 minutes at the 2011 World Cup and then every minute of every game at the Olympics, with every touch near goal seeming to fly in. She recalls spotting her parents among 70,000 and only realising the impact on seeing front as well as back pages at home. She credits Sunderland, where she was there from eight to nineteen alongside Jill Scott and Carly Telford with Lucy Bronze, Demi Stokes and Jordan Nobbs behind her, and older players who kept her feet on the floor. She contrasts part-time life at Arsenal with full-time days in Manchester.
