Interview
Sue Smith
She Kicks, issue SK13, April 2013 p.25
Catherine Etoe finds the Doncaster Rovers Belles midfielder fit again after tearing a cruciate ligament on her debut for the club, an injury that cost her most of the 2012 season. Now 33 and recovering from a calf strain, Sue Smith says she is as fit as she can be and jokes that she is doing everyone’s head in being far too positive. Watching the Olympics as a pundit alongside a pregnant Faye White, both wishing they were playing, inspired her return; she felt she let Doncaster down and wants to make things right. Playing is the priority over television work. She praises experienced signings Nicola Hobbs, Cheryl Foster and Emma Thomson, cites Everton’s win over Liverpool as proof of what team effort brings, and on 93 England caps says reaching 100 has to be a goal.
