Sue Smith: Injury Interview
She Kicks, issue SK07, April 2012 p.17
Catherine Etoe speaks to Sue Smith after the cruciate ligament injury she suffered on her debut for Doncaster Rovers Belles, having moved from Lincoln City because the travelling had become a nightmare and she loved Doncaster’s family atmosphere. The 32-year-old England winger, known as Wongy, describes the highs and lows of thirty minutes in which Barnet scored, she equalised, and she was then stretchered off, knowing immediately she had done something major. She is devastated and out for the season, but reacted furiously to a report describing it as a career-ending injury, insisting she will come back stronger. She praises Doncaster for standing by her, wants to repay them by playing next season, and plans meanwhile to stay involved by advising younger players or helping promote the club.
