Subway Women’s League Cup Final: Chelsea 2-1 Manchester City
She Kicks, issue 89, April 2025 pp.14–15
Chelsea claimed their first trophy under new head coach Sonia Bompastor, beating Manchester City 2-1 at Pride Park to win the Subway Women’s League Cup for a sixth successive final appearance. Colombian striker Mayra Ramirez opened the scoring in the eighth minute, finishing at the second attempt past Ayaka Yamashita, before Aoba Fujino levelled for City in the 64th minute. Yui Hasegawa then turned Ramirez’s cross into her own net to restore Chelsea’s lead soon after, sealing the win in front of 14,187 fans on a heavily rutted pitch. It was the Blues’ first League Cup success since 2021, marking the opening act of four meetings between the sides in quick succession, with a Champions League quarter-final and league fixture still to follow.
