Stormin’ O’Gorman

A Group B interview with the Shamrock Rovers captain, who retired from Republic of Ireland duty in 2018 at 29 with 100 caps and returned three years later to reach a first World Cup. O’Gorman, a forward turned full-back, describes missing a friend’s wedding for the tournament and the family contingent heading out, including a brother combining his honeymoon with the trip. She traces the dream back to watching Olivia O’Toole score off the bench at Richmond Park as a child, and says a first major tournament always seemed likely to be a European Championship rather than this. She credits Vera Pauw with instilling belief, names Ruesha Littlejohn and Lucy Quinn as the squad’s livewires, and enjoys being in a sticker book.
