SSE Women’s FA Cup Player of the Round: Fliss Gibbons (Gillingham)

She Kicks, issue 39, January 2017 pp.42–43

Gillingham’s Fliss Gibbons scored four of her side’s goals in a seven-one win, the biggest victory of the Women’s FA Cup first round proper, and took SSE’s new Player of the Round award. She rates her last goal the best because she had time to think about it and stayed composed, something she and coach Jack Wheeler have worked on, and picks Jay Blackie’s volley as the team’s best. Her most celebrated goal was her second, after a saved penalty had earned her stick from the goalkeeper. She does not consider herself an out and out striker. Her furthest run in the competition was with Gillingham in 2014, when they held Arsenal for an hour before Kelly Smith scored twice.
