Spurs Set for Step Up (FAWPL Championship Play-Off match report)
She Kicks, issue 42, July 2017 p.60
Tottenham Hotspur completed a season that also brought the League Cup and County Cup by beating Blackburn Rovers 3-0 at The Valley to take the FA Women’s Premier League Championship play-off and a place in the FA WSL from September. Bianca Baptiste scored twice, in the thirty-fifth and sixty-sixth minutes, before Wendy Martin added a long-range third deep into stoppage time in front of 826 spectators on 28 May. The report carries the complete team sheets: Jenna Schillaci captaining Karen Hills’s Spurs, Lynda Shepherd captaining Gemma Donnelly’s Blackburn, with Sarah Garratt refereeing. It is the settled answer to a fixture both captains had previewed in the previous issue, each describing it as the biggest game of their careers.
