Smith and Love reach century

She Kicks, issue 4, April 2011 p.5

A news item marking two century-makers at the 2011 Cyprus Cup. Kelly Smith captained England and scored a penalty on her 100th international appearance as they beat Italy 2-0 in their opening match, emulating the hat-trick of milestone, armband and goal that Rachel Yankey managed against Turkey the previous year. Smith was not the only player reaching three figures in Cyprus: Jo Love collected her 100th cap in Scotland’s match against Canada, becoming at just 25 only the fourth Scottish woman to reach the mark, alongside goalkeeper and current captain Gemma Fay on 124 caps, Arsenal striker Julie Fleeting on 117 and Scotland’s most capped player of all. The same page notes that the very first event of the 2012 Olympics will be a women’s football match at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on 25 July, and sits alongside the issue’s wider round-up of World Cup, Olympic and Super League news.
