#SK73, Has To Wait & See… (Editor’s Letter)

Editor Jen O’Neill writes an issue that has to go to press before anything is settled – the WSL, the SWPL and the cups all undecided, and news of Portugal replacing Russia at EURO 2022 squeezing in as the printer was called. She uses the space for two arguments. The first is a quiet elegy: for over a decade this pre-cup-final issue carried irreverent squad profiles written by a team-mate, and that is no longer possible now that The FA, clubs, sponsors and television all require access. The second is celebration tipping into a call to arms – Barcelona’s record crowds, Rangers at Ibrox, 22,134 watching Newcastle in Tier 4 – and an appeal for readers who care about kick-off times, ticket prices and prize money to join the Football Supporters’ Association.
