SK Stats & Facts: Women’s FA Cup Final 2022 Facts
She Kicks, issue 73, May 2022 pp.8–9
A two-page statistical history of the Women’s FA Cup, compiled by Natalia Sollohub with Catherine Etoe and Jen O’Neill before the 2022 final. Arsenal dominate it: seventeen finals, fourteen won, nine of Rachel Yankey’s record eleven winner’s medals, and ten trophies in sixteen years for Vic Akers. Doncaster Belles have thirteen finals and the 1970s Southampton side – explicitly not related to Southampton FC – ten. The competition began in 1970-71 as the WFA Mitre Challenge Trophy with 71 entrants; 417 clubs entered its 52nd staging. Prize money started at 100 pounds in 1977 and reached 25,000 for the 2022 winners. The record crowd is 45,423, set at Wembley in 2018, and Albert and Debbie Bampton remain the only father and daughter to have won it as managers.
