Simpkins Wants To Get Back To Winning Ways (Emily Simpkins Player Interview)

The Belles defender takes the positives from a season she calls a physical and emotional rollercoaster. Relegation was tough to take and she rejects the idea that seeing it coming softened the blow: regardless of the table, the squad kept hoping and stayed positive. What she wants from the Spring Series is more regular fixtures than the stop-start 2016 schedule allowed, new opponents, and a team that keeps bonding, learning and improving – plus, she adds, staying injury free. She will not say who got her player of the year vote but notes Jess Sigsworth was performing well before injury. The pre-match huddle is getting shorter under captain Leandra Little, followed by high tens, and the squad group chat is called Belles, complete with bell emojis.
