Signeul Satisfied

A short sidebar interview in which Wilf Frith speaks to Scotland manager Anna Signeul just hours after her side opened their Euro 2013 qualifying campaign with a 6-1 win in Israel. Signeul is satisfied rather than triumphant, stressing that her players were not complacent and took nothing for granted, and reserving most of her praise for the way the squad handled a midday kick-off in thirty-degree heat. She says all eighteen players, not just the starters, dealt with the conditions professionally, and declines to single anyone out, calling the win a team effort. Looking ahead to the home fixture against Wales, she resists the suggestion that it is a must-win game, saying Scotland’s target is to qualify for the European Championships and therefore to win every match, with full respect for every opponent.
