Sheffield FC Ladies interview: Helen Mitchell on retaining the Northern Division title
She Kicks, issue SK21, June 2014 p.40
An interview with Sheffield FC Ladies manager Helen Mitchell after her side added the FA Premier League Cup to their Northern Division title and County Cup successes. Mitchell describes learning of the championship in unexpected circumstances: sitting in the changing room after winning at Preston and planning for Derby, someone checking Twitter realised Nottingham Forest and Stoke City were both losing and the title was already theirs. She contrasts a two-horse race with Nottingham Forest the previous season with the added pressure of being favourites, and credits experienced players who know how to handle situations. Mitchell names Bradford City centre half Charlotte Stuart the most impressive opponent faced, and argues that without promotion or relegation there is no way of testing how good Premier League sides really are, noting Sheffield FC has no spare GBP750,000 to invest.
