SheBelieves Cup Matchday 1: United States 1-0 England

She Kicks, issue 34, April 2016 pp.8–9

England open the inaugural SheBelieves Cup with a narrow defeat to the world champions in Tampa, beaten by Crystal Dunn’s seventy-second minute strike off the bench in front of 13,027. Mark Sampson concedes his side must now judge themselves on results, but points out they competed from the first minute to the ninetieth and that a team able to bring on a player of Dunn’s quality is a formidable one. Jordan Nobbs describes the unfamiliar task of marking Carli Lloyd, arguing that the world-class American caused England few problems and that she played a major part in that. Jill Scott calls it a great strike and says taking a single chance is England’s next step. Lucy Bronze is the readers’ player of the match.
