She Kicks Goal Getter: Libs Ends Glovers’ Goal Drought (Libby Piggot)
She Kicks, issue 48, July 2018 p.31
Yeovil Town went fourteen league games without scoring in their first WSL 1 season, and it was Libby Piggot – a twenty-year-old centre midfielder playing up front on her senior debut – who ended it against Everton. She is honest that it was neither pretty nor spectacular: she had been making runs into the box all game, Ella Pusey’s shot was parried across the area, and she slid in ahead of the defenders. She had told a coach beforehand that she was not leaving the pitch without a goal. The celebrations were considerable and the result was not, which spoiled it. The Opta tables earlier in this issue put it in context: it was half of Yeovil’s league goals for the entire season.
