She Kicks Back: The Mum, The Myth, The Legend… (Helen Ward Interview)

Wales’ record goalscorer, 44 goals in 105 caps, announced her international retirement in March and will hang up her boots at the end of a 22nd season. Helen Ward knows how fortunate she is to go on her own terms, and is grateful Gemma Grainger took her to the Pinatar Cup for a proper goodbye. She talks about her roommate Rhiannon Roberts, who talked her out of retiring more than once, about the 15,000 at Cardiff City Stadium for Bosnia, and about scoring while pregnant. Wendie Renard was the hardest opponent she faced; Kim Little and Kelly Smith the best to watch from the other end. Her one regret is not believing she belonged at Arsenal. Next comes media work and player welfare in an academy.
