She Kicks Back: Looking Back At London 2012 (Ifeoma Dieke and Rachel Williams)
She Kicks, issue 68, August 2021 pp.44–47
Nine years on, two of the London 2012 Team GB squad look back. Ifeoma Dieke, born in the United States and one of only two non-English players in the squad, started the first two games and ruptured her cruciate ligament against Cameroon, going home to nine months of rehabilitation; she says she takes nothing but good from it, and that watching the Paralympians afterwards was what pulled her through. Rachel Williams came off the bench against Brazil at Wembley in front of 70,584 people and admits that at the start she thought it would be just another tournament, until people back home on her estate in Leicester began telling her how big it had become. They wanted a golden postbox of their own.
