Belgium’s all-time leading scorer arrived at Manchester City in June and made her first real impression at an initiation, turning the lights down to perform Adele’s Hello after a match when everyone was tired – a choice she now concedes could have been better. Music has real weight for her: four hours a day in the car to train with Standard Liege early on, working through everything that existed, and a habit of reading lyrics to think about what is being sung. She is Belgium’s team DJ, listens in four languages, and learned childhood pop on the hour-long drive to the sea. The last live show she saw was the Foo Fighters at the Etihad, which she enjoyed while being clear it is not her thing.
