The She Kicks a Beat slot finds Lyon’s Dutch forward Shanice van de Sanden at the centre of a story about music and identity. Her stooping header in front of a capacity Utrecht crowd opened EURO 2017 and set the Oranje Leeuwinnen on their way, and the song that still recalls that summer for the squad is John de Bever’s ‘Jij Krijgt Die Lach Niet Van Mijn Gezicht’. She explains the tattoo she first described to Tony Leighton in these pages as a Liverpool signing in 2016 – take time to laugh, because it is the music of your heart – as being about enjoying life.
