She Kicks a Beat: Setting the Summer on Feier (Laura Feiersinger interview)

Austria arrived at Euro 2017 as newcomers and left as semi-finalists, and the image the tournament kept was of a squad conga-ing through the Rotterdam mixed zone behind a flashing suitcase boombox. Laura Feiersinger insists this is simply how they are – someone has an idea and everyone follows – and the Austrian DJ behind the backing track liked it enough to rework the song for them, having promised by video message to sing with them if they reached the final. She took the first penalty in the quarter-final shoot-out against Spain and lifted it into the top corner. Music, she says, is part of her preparation, and Coldplay now carry a permanent link to those weeks in the Netherlands.
