She Kicks a Beat: Natze’s Got a Brand New Flow (Nadine Angerer interview)
She Kicks, issue 34, April 2016 pp.60–61
Nadine Angerer, the only goalkeeper of either sex to be named FIFA World Player of the Year, talks music and career after retiring with 146 Germany caps, two World Cups and five European Championships. She explains how she came to rap on the German group voXXclub’s World Cup song despite protesting that she could neither sing nor rap. The piece traces her years as Silke Rottenberg’s understudy, the 2007 World Cup she completed without conceding, culminating in saving Marta’s penalty in the final, and two more penalty saves in the 2013 European final. She was Germany’s team DJ for exactly one game before discovering nobody else liked ska, and now coaches goalkeepers at Portland Thorns.
