She Kicks a Beat: Madison Haley

Brighton & Hove Albion forward Madison Haley, a two-time NCAA champion at Stanford before helping fire Sydney FC to A-League Women glory, is the latest guest for the revived ‘She Kicks a Beat’ music Q&A. The Dallas-born 26-year-old – daughter of five-time Super Bowl champion Charles Haley – talks through her record collection (left behind in Texas), collaborating on a team playlist with Rachel McLauchlan, and favourite artists including Lizzo, Khalid and The 1975. She recalls her college initiation song (‘Never Gonna Give You Up’, personalised for Stanford), recent concerts from Beyoncé to Taylor Swift, and living with talented pianist-guitarist teammate Michelle Agyemang. Haley also touches on childhood piano lessons abandoned for football, and picks Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson as her all-time dream concert bill – a light, personal companion piece to the magazine’s football coverage.
