She Kicks a Beat: Kazza C and the Bluenose Rock (Karen Carney)

Karen Carney, newly the first woman inducted into Birmingham City’s Hall of Fame and the first to appear on the men’s team match programme cover, turns to music. Not a karaoke fan, she nonetheless had to sing for a minute with a banana as a microphone when she re-signed for Birmingham, performing We Will Rock You. A former dancer, she favours r&b and dance, currently Justin Timberlake and Usher, and remembers buying Spice Up Your Life aged about ten in 1997, the year she joined the Blues. She recalls Cristiane as team DJ at Chicago Red Stars and Emily Westwood at Birmingham, rates Eniola Aluko and Jess Clarke as singers while dismissing Jill Scott and Lianne Sanderson’s Backstreet Boys effort, and would record with Laura Bassett.
