She Kicks a Beat: Brooke in a Black Cat Boogie (Brooke Chaplen interview)
She Kicks, issue 36, July 2016 pp.56–57
Sunderland midfielder Brooke Chaplen, twenty-seven and the club’s leading scorer with five goals in the season’s opening stages, talks music and career. She dislikes the heavy wordless dance music captain Steph Bannon plays, prefers something upbeat, and reports that Jess Glynne’s album dominates the changing room while Beth Mead hogs the stereo with four versions of the same remixed Tracy Chapman song. Her five years at Everton brought an FA Cup win, a Champions League hat-trick against MTK Hungaria and the assist for Natasha Dowie’s 119th-minute FA Cup final winner. She would form a cover band with Victoria Williams for her Ligament Dance and Lucy Staniforth because she can actually sing.
