Send Off For Signeul (Anna Signeul’s farewell at Hampden)
She Kicks, issue 43, September 2017 p.24
Managers rarely get a proper goodbye, but the Scottish FA gathered coaches, club officials, former players and staff at Hampden in August to give Anna Signeul one. The tributes measure a twelve-year reign in more than results. Deveronvale’s head coach describes a national coach who would always come over and talk to you. Chief executive Stewart Regan recalls someone who never let the argument for investment drop. Glasgow City founder Laura Montgomery makes the largest claim: every girl growing up now thinks she can be a professional player, where before it was a pipe dream. Signeul, standing before a giant photograph of herself that guests signed, spoke with wit and emotion, and said she would be sad to leave a country and a sense of humour she loves.
