Scotland Starting Eleven (full-page photograph)

The companion page to the England line-up opposite: the Scotland eleven arm in arm before kick-off in navy, white and red, their goalkeeper in orange, shirt numbers running from one to twenty. Like its pair it carries no caption beyond the PA Images credit, the pages around it telling the story of a qualifying window in which Scotland lost narrowly to their group’s top seeds in Switzerland and then beat Poland 3-0 at Paisley with a saved penalty and a first international goal for Zoe Ness. Published in a fifty-two page issue with only one gallery, the decision to give a full page each to both home nations says something about where the magazine’s loyalties sit.
