Saving Grace (cartoon strip by Steve English)

The third instalment of Saving Grace, the cartoon strip introduced two issues earlier and drawn by Steve English, the magazine’s regular cartoonist. It follows a young, football-mad goalkeeper called Grace and runs across the Little Kicks page, this issue carrying only the credit line ‘By Steve English’ rather than its own title, though it is unmistakably the same feature. The page around it is given over to a ‘Who is your fave and why?’ round of readers’ photographs: Maya with Joelle Murray, the first Scotland player she ever met and whose shirt from the 2017 Euros she is lucky enough to own, and Kate with Keira Walsh at a Same Goals session at Manchester City, made up that Walsh had just extended her contract. Three consecutive appearances confirm the strip as a fixture of the section She Kicks built for its youngest readers alongside Born Kicking and Star Six.
