Sasic Voted Best In Europe: UEFA Women’s Best Player in Europe Award 2014/15
She Kicks, issue 30, October 2015 p.7
A news feature reporting that the recently retired Celia Sasic was voted UEFA Best Women’s Player in Europe for 2014-15, topping a poll of eighteen journalists ahead of Amandine Henry and Dzsenifer Marozsan. The former FFC Frankfurt and Germany forward had won the Champions League in May and finished as top scorer at the World Cup before announcing her retirement at just 28. Sasic dedicated the award to her team-mates at club and international level, saying that as a striker she has the best job but her team-mates give her good balls. She described how the game changed across her career, from playing with boys until 15 or 16 and training twice a week to being fully supported as a professional. A footnote records six British players receiving votes, Steph Houghton just missing the final twelve.
