Kieran Theivam interviews Watford Ladies forward Sarah Wiltshire after her second Algarve Cup with Wales, in which she featured in all three group games and the play-off defeat by Portugal. She relishes the calibre of opposition, Portugal, Mexico and Hungary, and values the camp as preparation for the autumn’s World Cup qualifiers. Asked who impressed, she singles out captain Jessica Fishlock for her ball-winning ability, work rate and two outstanding goals, and praises Helen Ward (Lander) for the clever runs behind defences that brought a top goal against Hungary, saying she can learn from watching both. On Watford, Wiltshire notes a transformed season: 25 points with six league games left against 17 for the whole of the previous campaign. She hopes for the club’s highest Premier League finish and a place in the second tier of the Women’s Super League.
