Saint Shannon (Shannon Sievwright interview)

Shannon Sievwright is Southampton’s number 10, the Saints Foundation’s female inclusion officer, head coach of the University of Portsmouth women’s team, a UEFA B licence holder and a European Beach Soccer champion, all at 25. Asked how she fits it in, she answers time management, and then hydration, sleep and recovery. Portsmouth-born, she played for her hometown club from the age of nine before signing for Southampton in 2018. She talks up the facilities behind Saints’ rise – a full-time analyst, physiotherapist and strength coach at the men’s Staplewood training ground – and the 4,510 who watched them lose to Coventry United at St Mary’s in the FA Cup. The stated ambition is back-to-back promotions and, eventually, the WSL. Her goal celebration crosses the Mobot with an Irish jig.
