Safe Hands: Sophie Baggaley

An instalment of the magazine’s recurring Safe Hands goalkeeper feature, in which Bristol City’s Sophie Baggaley answers a run of questions about her position. She picks out tipping a Jordan Nobbs shot onto the bar in a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in 2018, which won her the FAWSL Save of the Season award, as her favourite. She explains that she went in goal aged seven or eight when a boys’ team’s regular keeper was away and never came out, names shot-stopping as her best attribute and describes herself as competitive, driven and brave. Bristol City teammate Eartha Cumings and Manchester City’s Ederson are her favourite goalkeepers, and she loves the club’s bright pink and purple jersey. Goalie wars is her favourite drill, crossing drills her least, and she wants to improve her distribution and left foot.
