Safe Hands: Pauline Peyraud-Magnin (Arsenal)
She Kicks, issue 52, March 2019 pp.42–43
The Safe Hands slot turns to Arsenal’s French goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin, who started keeping at fourteen only because her coach asked whether anyone wanted to fill the other goal at training. She rates her feet her best attribute, describes herself as determined, a perfectionist and crazy, and picks out a save from three years earlier at Marseille against Bordeaux, tipping a lob onto the crossbar and then reacting to keep out the follow-up. Aerial drills are her favourite work because she likes to fly; one-against-ones are her least favourite because they are hard. More self-control would make her better, she says, and she wants outfield players to understand the daily weight of the responsibility. Her favourite keeper is Manuel Neuer, and her advice is never to forget where you come from.
