Safe Hands: Lauren Dolbear (Lewes Ladies FC)
She Kicks, issue 39, January 2017 p.49
Lewes goalkeeper Lauren Dolbear names as her favourite save one made while already five-nil down against Tottenham at the Dripping Pan, fighting through numerous players to claim a high ball, because it showed her training paying off and her refusal to give up. Shoved in goal for a tournament at ten with Hangleton Rangers, she realised her potential and was picked up by Brighton’s Centre of Excellence. Her best attribute is bravery one against one; she wears yellow and orange at Lewes because she does not have the loudest voice and the shirt announces her presence. Asked what is hardest emotionally, she says being remembered for one mistake rather than a game full of saves.
