Safe Hands: Frances Kitching (Chelsea Ladies)

She Kicks, issue 38, November 2016 p.42

Chelsea goalkeeper Frances Kitching went in net for her father’s team Wickersley Youth because nobody else would, and got stuck there, discovering she was better in goal than as a striker. She names as her favourite save a one-against-one against Eniola Aluko in her Chelsea trial, which she says was what decided Emma Hayes to sign her. Her favourite shirt remains the first goalkeeper top her father bought her: she agreed to go in goal only if it was pink, and became known in the league for wearing it. She has used the same gloves since childhood but is picky about boots. Her favourite career moment is a debut against Paris Saint-Germain on her eighteenth birthday, with her family arriving to surprise her.
