Safe Hands: Emily Ramsey (Birmingham City)
She Kicks, issue 69, October 2021 p.56
On loan at Birmingham City from Manchester United, the goalkeeper takes the magazine’s regular slot. Her favourite save came for England Under-21s about a year earlier, not because it was spectacular but because it was one of her first games back after a serious injury. She became a keeper because the local boys’ team, a year above her, said she could sign if she played in goal; it turned out she was good at it. Her strengths are shot-stopping and presence, and she likes to be loud and commanding. She idolised Edwin van der Sar growing up. What would improve her most now is simply a run of tough games. The worst part of the job is how costly mistakes are.
