Road to France: Marta Corredera – Spain Can Have a Big Say at France 2019

Ahead of England’s friendly with Spain in Swindon, former Arsenal wide player Marta Corredera talks from Levante about two lovely seasons in England that improved her fitness and her ability to compete for every ball, and about spotting a very young Leah Williamson as a future superb central defender. She left Atletico Madrid for Levante wanting a new challenge after two league titles. On the record crowds in Spain she is pointed: it would be a real boost if the people who fill big stadiums for one-off matches came to the smaller grounds week in, week out, because when the World Cup ends the support drops away. She would rather Spain avoided the dark horses tag, calls a group with Germany, China PR and South Africa tricky, and believes Spain will have a big say.
