Red Flames Rekindled (Tine De Caigny interview)
She Kicks, issue 74, July 2022 p.60
A single page with the Belgium forward heading to her second European Championship, five years after being the squad’s second-youngest at their debut tournament. Tine De Caigny has grown into one of the Red Flames’ most reliable goal threats in the years since – the fact box notes she was the leading scorer in the whole qualifying competition with 12 goals, two clear of anyone else – and arrives off a Champions League season with Hoffenheim, who were drawn against Arsenal in the group stage. She tells Chris Brookes her family have booked flights and hotels for the group games against Iceland and Italy, names Laura Deloose as the squad’s joker, and remembers 2017 for the nerves, the fans and Belgium’s first ever EURO win, against Norway. This time, she says, a younger group has grown together and is capable of beautiful things.
