Rachel Daly: Lionesses Tribute
She Kicks, issue 85, July 2024 pp.38–39
A tribute marking Rachel Daly’s international retirement, confirmed shortly after her 84th and final Lionesses cap in a EURO-qualifying win over the Republic of Ireland. The piece looks back on an eight-year England career spanning four major tournaments, including the Olympics with Team GB in 2021 and the triumphant EURO 2022 campaign, during which Daly excelled interchangeably at left-back and up front. It recalls her 16 international goals, including a World Cup strike against China in 2023 and a crucial penalty in the shootout win over Nigeria, as well as her bond with teammates and the widely-shared Trafalgar Square karaoke moment after the EURO win. The Aston Villa forward’s club career continues, but her England story is now complete.
