Quick Kicks: Rachel Williams
She Kicks, issue SK05, November 2011 p.5
A short question-and-answer with Birmingham City’s Rachel Williams, carried alongside the FA Women’s Awards coverage, after she was voted FA WSL Players’ Player of the Year for 2011. Williams says she was genuinely surprised by the vote and had expected Arsenal’s Kim Little to win, rating her highly for scoring from midfield, and recalls Chelsea goalkeeper Carly Telford telling her beforehand that she most deserved it. She jokes that asking the chairman for a goal bonus was first on her list for next season, confirms she is now being asked to play as a forward rather than a midfielder, and describes scoring her first senior England goal against Slovenia in a Euro 2013 qualifier as one she will always remember, having come through the younger age groups and been in and out of the squad.
