Position by Position: Lucy Bronze (Full-Back)
She Kicks, issue 46, March 2018 p.66
A two-page instalment of the SK Player Guides position series, with England full-back Lucy Bronze breaking down the role alongside Jazz Hervin. Bronze puts defending the one-against-one first, then argues full-backs are as important as anyone going forward, with freedom to drive in late, go wide or come inside, always asking how she can help the striker score. In her own half she keeps it simple, knowing where her centre-half and goalkeeper are and restarting sideways if nothing is on, looking first for forwards and wingers before building through midfield; higher up she takes risks and drives into space. Out of possession she describes splitting herself in two between attacking and covering the counter, adjusting her starting position to a goalkeeper’s height, and insists any decision beats no decision.
