Player Interview: Suzanne Grant — Grant’s New Goal

She Kicks, issue SK15, July 2013 pp.30–31

Olivia Blair meets the Celtic forward for whom football is taking a back seat for the first time, with her first child due on 15 December. Suzanne Grant, 29, is philosophical, saying there is rarely a right time for an athlete and that becoming a mother matters more now, but she is still training with Celtic and takes heart from best friend Julie Fleeting, who scored four in an international on her return. She admits Scotland’s last-second play-off defeat by Spain crystallised the decision, calling it an all-time low. Spotted by Ross County, she was called into the senior squad at sixteen and scored twice on debut against Northern Ireland; in one week with Arsenal in 2009 she scored in the League Cup final and the title decider. Her hundredth cap, against the USA, brought a goal.
