Player Interview: Jill Scott — Positively Jill
She Kicks, issue SK16, September 2013 pp.16–17
The 26-year-old Everton captain reflects on a chastening summer. Jill Scott says returning from Sweden was difficult, that it is easier to get over defeats when you have played well, and that she has not fully recovered from what felt like an opportunity missed. Asked repeatedly what went wrong, she says she does not know, only that England never got going and that at a major tournament you must hit the ground running. She saw news of Hope Powell’s departure on Twitter after a weights session, and credits her with central contracts, the WSL and improved youth frameworks. Three defeats in seven days on her return, to Bristol and twice heavily to Arsenal, made one of the hardest weeks of her career. She praises Mo Marley’s under-19s reaching a fourth final in seven years.
