Pet Corner: Amy Goddard

The recurring Pet Corner feature, with Southampton’s vice-captain, who returned to familiar Hampshire surroundings this summer after two years at Sunderland and scored on her debut. Goddard introduces working cocker spaniels Cooper and Nacho, the latter named either for her love of nachos or her partner’s affection for Rangers forward Nacho Novo. She casts Cooper as a full-back or winger and Nacho as a wild goalkeeper who flips to catch balls in his mouth, and explains how caring for the family beagle helped her through Bell’s palsy. Teammates’ dogs get a roll call, Chloe Peplow and Tara Bourne are trusted sitters, and cat person Issy Watts is not.
